Morgan's Playground

This past weekend we took Melany to Morgan's Playground. The park is on 25 acre land and made specially for children with special needs. The park was named after Morgan and her father built it so children with special needs like her could play regardless of their physical or mental challenges. Anyone can go to Morgan's Playground, regardless of disability because it is very interactive and plain beautiful. Melany had a lot of fun riding the train that goes around the park, as well as the play sets and activities catered for children her age. Melany's favorite part was the "Water Works" section of the park since she has a blast playing with water. My favorite part was seeing Melany and Enoch on the TV screen pretending to be showing the weather on TV. The butterflies made me smile and like Morgan herself, I've always loved butterflies. Enoch enjoyed the landscape and view of the fountain from the garden because it created a serene atmosphere.

The agency I work for!

MAY I tell you about this month

This month has been productive and full of variety. It started off by me taking my citizenship/naturalization test on May 6. I passed the exam and the interview went well. Enoch and I took the rest of the day to visit the Alamo and downtown San Antonio. It feelt so weird to be without Melany but it was nice to have a mini-date for a couple of hours.
Before I started working again, I made it a point to take Melany to a park we had never been to before. It's called the Duck Park and we walked around the pond. Melany was scared of the ducks but enjoyed seeing them from afar. While being at home, she has enjoyed throwing her cat to the first floor from our balcony. As you can see from her pictures, she can't live without her "Meow-meow."
I started my job last week on the 20th and Melany has been a good sport getting up early. It has been very hot here and so Melany loves to walk around the house with barely any clothes on. She always has her diapers, but in a perfect world, she would go without them! We will end our month perfectly with a "mini vacation" at the end of this week.

New job at MHM

While I have enjoyed spending time with my little girl, the time came for me to find a job. I have to admit it was bittersweet to begin the job hunt.
I like to call the whole process as my "job journey." So many things happened that lead me to find the job I started this week. I was offered two jobs and for several reasons did not follow through. For one of the jobs, I called the day before to decline the offer. This was something I didn't want to do but I felt an impression this was not the job for me. I prayed and felt comforted by the Lord. A week later I got a call from the Human Resource department offering me the job! I was elated and shocked. There were several applicants and due to the generous benefits, and competitive pay, many were desirous of this position. I wanted this job because it is a God centered working environment and I will be doing therapy with a special population.
It has been a week since I started at Methodist Healthcare Ministries(MHM). I work for the Behavioral Health department of MHM in their Wesley Wellness Center. I am one of the Master level social workers and work with several departments in our wellness center. Our patients get referred to us for therapy or case management needs by doctors, nurses, dentists and other medical personnel.
So far I love it and am looking forward to getting the hang of things. I love my office and the spirituality of the agency's mission statement. I know God led me to this job and I'm very grateful.

Please take a seat:)

Mother's day 2013

This year for mother's day Enoch bought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers and made breakfast for me. I was delighted to see the children in our ward sing a mother's day song as well as listening to the speakers relate their gratitude for mothers. All of a sudden, tears started rolling down my cheeks because I realized how badly I missed my dear mother. So here is why I admire her so much:

1. She is one of the most hard-working woman I know- both at work and home
2. She is a survivor of ALL the types of abuse possible, she has been triumphant through it all!
3. She takes care of the temporal and spiritual needs of her children
4. She is so talented!- she can cook like a pro, sew like an experienced seamstress and plant like a gardener
5. She has done an excellent job being a single mom to my siblings- I have a masters degree, my brother is in college finishing his B.S in Finance, my sister takes AP classes, gets straight A's and wants to be a doctor.
6. And last but certainly not least, she is kind, funny, and a true follower of Jesus Christ!

Te quiero muchisimo mami!

Family 5k for March of Dimes

Yesterday we jogged/walked as a family in the March of Dimes 5k. Melany was in the stroller and enjoyed strolling through the Sea World park. It was so nice to be participating for such a good cause. There were many babies, moms, dads, uncles, aunties and friends supporting one another and marching in honor of babies who were born premature or never made it.

Melany almost didn't make it when I was in labor due to the poor choices of the obgyn  that was on-call. I felt my world and heart fall apart. Enoch and I prayed so fervently and God granted us the blessing of having a healthy baby.

Sadly, other babies don't have this outcome. Hence, why we had to participate in this important 5k. The money raised helps the organization fund research programs to ensure babies are helped through their birth and beyond. You can go here http://marchforbabies.org to get more information.
